    RAMA Foundation and Health Focus of Southwest Virginia  hope to spend this elegant and entertaining evening with you.                                             

The RAMA Foundation and Health Focus of Southwest Virginia coordinate this event to benefit financially needy students pursuing careers in health services and planning to serve in the Roanoke Valley.  This year’s grant recipients will be the winners of scholarships from the RAMA Foundation Scholarship Program and Health Focus of Southwest Virginia

We are thrilled to announce authors Sandra Brown, William Geroux, Sally Cabot Gunning, and emcee Martin Clark.  

The RAMA Foundation and Health Focus of Southwest VA could not provide these scholarships without the generous support of a caring community.

Roanoke Academy Of Medicine Alliance Foundation. In the first eighteen years of this event the RAMA Foundation raised over $630,000! We have provided scholarship money to more than 160 local students in training in health related fields. Local non-profit agencies receiving grants from Book & Author proceeds over the years include: The Bradley Free Clinic, CHIP,  Children’s Trust, Community Outreach Program, Family Service of the Roanoke Valley, The First Tee, Greenvale School, Healing Strides, Project Access, Ronald McDonald House, Saint Francis Service Dogs, St. Francis House, Turning Point Shelter, and Unbridled Change. Featured authors have included: Frank McCourt, David Baldacci, Adrianna Trigiani, Oliver Sacks, Tess Gerritsen, Andrew Gross, James Swanson, Steve Berry, Harlan Coben, James Rollins, Gregg Hurwitz, Beth Macy, Garth Stein, Hallie Ephron, Cathy Maxwell, Lisa Scottoline, Lorenzo Carcaterra, Barbara Holland, Andrew Carroll, Homer Hickam, John Feinstein, Daniel Wallace, Stephen Frey, Nikki Giovanni, Nathaniel Philbrick, Hampton Sides, Rita Mae Brown, Cokie Roberts, Dr. Bill Bass, Dot Frank, and John Hart.

Health Focus of Southwest Virginia, formerly known as the Lewis-Gale Foundation, was founded in 1964 by a group of medical professionals and community leaders. It’s primary purpose: “To encourage, support and promote medical progress in the Roanoke Valley.”

Health Focus is a 501(c)3 charity dedicated to the promotion of health, health education and the preservation of medical history. Programs include health career scholarships, support groups, adaptive yoga classes for those with disabilities, first aid and CPR certifications, sale of AEDs (automated external defibrillators), continuing education for health professionals, and medical museum displays.

Scholarships are awarded primarily to VA Residents of VA schools with an emphasis on the Roanoke Valley. Since 1966 they have awarded nearly 3.5 million dollars to financially needy students in health careers attending over 50 different schools.
